Mr. Ganaka Amarasinghe appointed as the President of AAT Sri Lanka for the period of 2011-2012

It is with great pride and pleasure we announce that the Managing Director of the Kingdom of Raigam, Mr. Ganaka Amarasinghe has been elected the 7th President of the Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka for the term 2012-2013. He was admitted to its membership (AATSL) in 1988 at the inaugural convocation of the institute.

After the completion of his primary education, Mr. Ganaka Amarasinghe selected finance and accounting professionas his career path and within a short period, was elected a Fellow Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (FMAAT), The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (FCA) and also the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (FCMA). He obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Sri Jayawardhenapura.

He has over twenty five years experience in finance, accounting and business in the private sector as well as the government sector organizations where he has held several senior positions for significant periods. Today he is the Managing Director of the well known Sri Lankan conglomerate, the Raigam Group. He has been with the Raigam Group since 1999. Mr. Amarasinghe is also a Director of Puttalam Salt Limited.

Mr. Ganaka Amarasinghe has played a prominent and active role in the academic field since 1990 as a Visiting Lecturer of the Faculty of the University of Ruhuna, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) and the Institute of Accounting Studies. He has extensively contributed to the accounting profession in Sri Lanka as a Member of the Governing Councils of AATSL (2006 - 2009) and CA SriLanka (2008 - 2011). As a member of the Governing Council of AATSL he Chaired committees of Education, Training, Information Technology, CPD and many subcommittees. He has also been the Chairman of Library, Education and Curriculum Development Committees of CA Sri Lanka and a Member of Disciplinary, Investmentand Buildings Committees. Mr. Ganaka Amarasinghe was a Member of the Panel of Judges for Presidential Awards for TourismIndustry in Sri Lanka and National Exports Awards.

The 11 th of November saw the commissioning of the new Salt Purification and Packeting Plant at the Bata-atha Factory of Southern Salt Co. (Pvt.) Ltd., a fully owned subsidiary of Raigam Wayamba Salterns PLC. The new plant is expected to service the salt needs of the Southern Province and its environs.

 



The Directors recommended that Final Dividend of Cents 12 per Share on the 282,207,320 shares issued as the final dividend for the year 2010/2011. This will be tabled at the AGM of the Company in September 2011 for shareholders' approval.

17 th of September saw the ceremonial opening of the administrative buildings of the biggest single saltern in the island. Situated on the Trinco-Pulmudai road, approximately 26 Kilometers from Trincomalee Town the saltern will supply high quality salt to the eastern part of the island. The Chief Organizer of the SLFP for the Eastern Province and Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic resources Hon. Susantha Punchinilame officiated at the ceremony attended by the District Secretary of Trincomalee Maj. Gen. Ranjith T de Silva and Chairman of the Kuchchaveli Pradesheeya Sabawa Mr. Thawfeek.

It is with Great pleasure we announce the following milestones our directors have recently achieved in their illustrious career

1) Eng. Upali Gunawardena has been elected President of the Institution of Incorporated Engineers, Sri Lanka (IIESL), for the session 2010 / 2011 at their 32 nd Annual Sessions held at the BMICH recently. Before assuming duties as the President, he acted as President Elect, Vice President and Executive Committee Member of the IIESL.Earlier, he was the General Manager of Lanka Salt Ltd., and presently a Director of a number of companies. Institution of Incorporated Engineers Sri Lanka, (IIESL) established in 1977, was incorporated by an Act of Parliament of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and is a member organization of SAARC Diploma Engineers' Forum.

2) Mr. T. Dharmarajah was recently elected as a member of the council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka. He is also a senior partner of Messers Amarasekara & Company and is also a member of the Council of University of Sri Jayawardenepura and the President of Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka.

3) Professor Sampath Amaratunge, Senior Lecturer/Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, was appointed as Professor of Business Economics, recently. He joined the Department of Business Administration in 1990, and was made Dean in 2008. He has held numerous positions in various societies and associations and is the author of many publications internationally and locally.

We congratulate all these directors on their achievements and wish them all the very best in their future activities.



The first share trading of Raigam Wayamba Salterns Ltd was ceremonially opened on the 29th of April, 2010. The share price went up to Rs. 5.25 per share as the maximum which was more than 100% of value.



Merchant Bank Auditorium was the venue for the press conference on the 5th of April held to mark the successful completion of the IPO, which saw the establishment of a record for the highest over-subscription factor of the decade, by almost twenty times. Principles governing the allocation of shares were also discussed and finalized. Dr. Ravi Liyanage, Chairman of the Raigam Group made a special statement thanking the subscribers for the trust shown in the company and reiterated that this trust would be safeguarded no matter what.



The First Salt Harvest of Bata-Atha Saltern in Hambanthota, was held on the 17 th of March. After more than two years of dedication, sacrifice and determination has turned a body of water, more than 250 acres in extent, in to a saltern producing crystal salt of the highest quality. In this season, around 2000MT of salt has been deposited in a Saltern, out of which 1000MT is expected to harvest within the first week. This would not have been possible if not for the cooperation and help extended to us by the villagers of the area who stood as one behind Raigam to make this venture successful, realizing the contribution it could make to the prosperity of the area.The harvest of the Bata-Atha Saltern in Hambanthota will be processed at the Bata-atha Industrial Park where Raigam will be putting up a refining plant before the year is out.

 



The launch of the Wayamba Salterns IPO was concluded on the 11 th of March at Taj Samudra. The event was well attended as Wayamba Salterns Limited is seen as the Crown Jewel of the Kingdom of Raigam. 80 million shares, each Rs.2/50, will be offered to the public on the 23 rd of March enabling everyone to be part of this blue chip venture.Wayamba Salterns has passed many a milestone on its prosperous journey. No doubt the IPO will go down as another very important, very successful and an unforgettable chapter.

 



We are extremely happy to announce that we have received from Japan an export order for thirty containers of Table Salt. This bears out our relentless quest for excellence in quality. We hope that this will be the first of many export orders from this client.
